Albert Meyer CA, CPA
President
Albert Meyer is founder and President of Bastiat Capital. Mr. Meyer draws on 15 years as an accounting professor and 11 years in equity research. Mr. Meyer, a Deloitte & Touche alumnus, is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Meyer was formerly an Accounting Professor at Spring Arbor University in Michigan and Assistant Academic Dean at the University of Natal, South Africa. In 1995, Mr. Meyer was awarded the Michiganian of the Year award for exposing the New Era Philanthropy Foundation, a Ponzi scheme that defrauded non-profits of hundreds of millions of dollars. In 2005, the American Accounting Association honored Mr. Meyer with the Accounting Exemplar Award.
In 1996, he joined Martin Capital Management as a portfolio manager. During this time he questioned Coca-Cola's accounting practices; which, subsequently, led to a number of publications including a cover story in the New York Times and Harvard Case Studies.
At the end of 1998, Behind the Numbers hired him as a research analyst. Mr. Meyer's report on Tyco was the first published assault on the company's accounting and governance practices.
In 2002, Mr. Meyer founded 2nd Opinion Research, an independent equity research firm.
Dusty Culbertson
Vice President
Dusty Culbertson is a Vice President at Bastiat Capital. Mr. Culbertson is an Arthur Andersen alumnus where he worked as a financial auditor and business consultant for four years. During his time at Arthur Andersen, he performed financial audits on FORTUNE 500 companies and consulted with large public companies identifying and implementing strategic best practices. He joined Mr. Meyer at 2nd Opinion Research where he assisted in identifying investing opportunities, writing research reports, and running the businesses' marketing and operation efforts. Mr. Culbertson graduated from Texas A&M University at College Station with a Bachelor's in Accounting and Masters in Finance from the school's Honor program. While attending Texas A&M, Mr. Culbertson served as President of the Business Student Council, the governing student body of the Mays Business School.
Greg McEwin
Marketing Director
Mr.McEwin joined Bastiat Capital in 2007 and serves as the firm's Marketing Director. Prior to Bastiat, Mr. McEwin was the Director of Sales and Marketing for 12 years at the well known independent research firm Behind the Numbers (BTN). Before entering into the institutional equity research business with BTN, Mr. McEwin spent five years as an institutional fixed income salesman at firms Bear Stearns and Paine Webber specializing in mortgage backed derivatives covering middle market accounts. Mr. McEwin graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Economics and Finance.
